Jacket to Vest: Giving a Windproof Jacket a Second Life (Before & After)
In this alteration project, our client brought in a windproof jacket—functional and reliable, but with one request: to turn it into a vest for greater mobility during outdoor and transitional-season activities.
The original jacket featured durable weather-resistant fabric with neatly finished inner linings. What seemed like a simple removal of sleeves was, in fact, a detailed restructuring process. Our goal was not just to cut, but to reshape the garment with balance, utility, and long-term durability in mind.
Our Alteration Process
Sleeve Removal & Shoulder Rebalancing: We carefully separated the sleeves along the natural curve of the shoulder, then recontoured the armhole to maintain a clean silhouette and structural stability.
Armhole Reinforcement: After cutting, we reinforced the raw edges with interfacing and secured the lining with bias binding. This ensures the finish holds up over time—without fraying, curling, or twisting.
Visual & Structural Harmony: To preserve the original fit, we slightly adjusted the front and back balance, aligning it perfectly with the existing zipper and pockets to make the new vest feel completely natural.
The transformation was subtle but powerful. The client expressed true joy at how versatile the piece had become—from active indoor training to breezy outdoor sessions.
"For us, alteration is never just subtraction—it’s reinvention. Every cut, stitch, and angle is about giving the garment a second life while staying true to the wearer’s needs."
